Liberal Democrats Pay The Price For Coalition

In May 2010, after the British General Election, I wrote a post that suggested that the coalition would be a bad thing for Liberal Democrats. And so it has proved. They have overwhelmingly lost the referendum on AV (alternative vote); lost 700 councilors in Thursday’s election; and lost 12 of 17 seats in the Scottish Parliament. Nick Clegg has said that the coalition was right for the country. If that is true then Clegg must be admired – he has sacrificed a whole party for the sake of Britain. I hope history will remember that – but I doubt it will.
